Glanzmann's thrombasthenia is an inherited bleeding disorder caused by a defect in the platelet glycoprotein αIIbβ3, which is essential for platelet aggregation. Without this functional glycoprotein, the platelet plug forms poorly, leading to excessive bleeding after trauma or surgical procedures.
