Coat color sabino (KIT)
Sabino 1 (SB1) is a white spotting pattern in horses associated with a variant in the KIT gene. It is characterized by irregular white markings on the face and legs, which may extend to the belly and body, sometimes with scattered white hairs. One copy of the SB1 variant is associated with the Sabino 1 phenotype, while horses carrying two copies have a completely or nearly completely white coat. However, this variant does not explain all patterns described as “Sabino”, which may have other genetic origins.
