Fragile Foal Syndrome Type 1 (WFFS) is due to an abnormality in collagen synthesis characterised by hyperextensible, abnormally thin and fragile skin and mucous membranes that cause extensive lesions throughout the body. Signs of the disease are present from birth. Newborn foals are euthanised due to a poor prognosis for an incurable disease. The WFFS test is a patented test in Germany, France and the UK. Complement factor C3 deficiency in dogs is a condition that leads to immune system failure. This condition makes affected dogs more susceptible to multiple and recurrent bacterial infections, as well as certain kidney diseases of immune origin. The gene involved in this pathology is the C3 gene, with a specific mutation identified as c.2136delC. The frequency of carriers of this mutation is approximately 1%, and symptoms can appear from a very young age.

Palmoplantar Keratoderma is a genetic condition that typically appears between 10 weeks and 1 year of age. Affected dogs develop painful thickening of the paw pads, with keratinous proliferations and fissures localized to the areas in contact with the ground. These fissures can lead to secondary infections and may cause lameness or reluctance to walk. The nails and other areas of the skin do not appear to be affected, and no other associated skin signs have been reported.

Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is an inherited disease that causes kidney cysts to form, leading to kidney failure. PKD cysts often present before the age of 1 year, while kidney failure usually occurs later.
