Pyruvate kinase deficiency (PKLR: c.1333_1338dup)
Test code: DOG-PKDEFTPyruvate kinase is an essential enzyme for energy production in red blood cells. Clinical signs are anaemia, weakness, hepatosplenomegaly. Bone marrow and liver failure usually occur before the age of 5 years. Heterozygous animals (healthy carriers) show no clinical signs, but have reduced levels of pyruvate kinase activity. Bone marrow transplants have been used to alleviate clinical signs in affected dogs.

Progressive retinal atrophy (AIPL1: c.577C>T)
Test code: CAT-PRA-AIPL1Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) linked to the AIPL1 gene is a hereditary genetic disease described in Persian cats. It causes rapid degeneration of retinal photoreceptors, with the onset of cell loss as early as 5 weeks of age and severe involvement by 16 weeks. The first clinical signs include an early decrease in night vision, followed by loss of daytime vision.

Pyruvate kinase deficiency (PKLR: c.994G>A)
Test code: DOG-PKDEFBPyruvate kinase is an essential enzyme for energy production in red blood cells. Clinical signs are anaemia, weakness, hepatosplenomegaly. Bone marrow and liver failure usually occur before the age of 5 years. Heterozygous animals (healthy carriers) show no clinical signs, but have reduced levels of pyruvate kinase activity. Hereditary hyperkeratosis (FAM83G: c.155G>C)
Test code: DOG-HFHHereditary hyperkeratosis of the foot pads usually appears in dogs at 4–5 months of age and affects all foot pads. Over time, horny growths develop along the edges, and the pad surface becomes hard and cracked. Affected dogs tend to avoid uneven surfaces and may show lameness.
This test is also recommended for the Welsh Terrier as part of the Flemish government’s breeding program (see the official program).

Coat length (FGF5: c.578C>T)
Progressive retinal atrophy (PRCD: c.5G>A)
Test code: DOG-PRA-PRCDProgressive rod-cone degeneration is one of several forms of progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), which causes the degeneration and death of retinal cells. The main symptom is progressive vision loss from the age of 3-5 years. The test can be performed for any breed, but is particularly relevant for the breeds listed below€49.85 -
Coat length (FGF5: c.284G>T)
Test code: DOG-LHLong hair is caused by mutations in the fibroblast growth factor-5 (FGF5) gene. To date, five mutations have been identified. The longhair test identifies the p.Cys95Phe mutation, which is the most common across breeds. The shorthair allele (L) is dominant over the longhair allele (l), so two copies of the longhair allele are required to produce longhaired dogs. The specific test for the Akita breed is available: see Longhair test - Akita (DOG-LHA)

Exercise-induced collapse (DNM1: c.767G>T)
Test code: DOG-EICExercise induced collapse is a neuromuscular disorder characterised by muscle weakness, incoordination and life-threatening collapse after intense exercise. Five to fifteen minutes of intense exercise causes dogs with this syndrome to develop a staggering gait and loss of control of the hind limbs. The episode may extend to all four limbs. Collapsing episodes usually last 5-10 minutes, and after 30 minutes there is often a full recovery, but episodes are sometimes fatal. This test is patented and subcontracted to the patent holding laboratory.€109.00 -
Canine multifocal retinopathy (BEST1: c.482G>A)
Test code: DOG-CMR2Multifocal retinopathy is an eye disease with symptoms appearing between 11 and 16 weeks of age. Affected dogs have multiple circular areas of retinal detachment. Fluid accumulates under the detached retina, resulting in blistering of the eye. The disease progresses slowly and does not usually lead to blindness.€49.85
