Neonatal encephalopathy is a malformation of the cerebellum seen in poodles. Affected puppies are small at birth and do not develop normally. At the age of about 3 weeks, weakness, ataxia, tremors are observed. Affected puppies do not interact with the mother or other members of the litter and react slowly to external stimuli. They usually die or are euthanised before 7 weeks of age.

Multiple system degeneration usually begins between 9 weeks and 6 months of age. The first signs include mild tremors and stiffness of the forelimbs.
Within 3 to 4 months, symptoms worsen, with severe ataxia, spasticity, an unsteady gait, and delayed postural reactions. The disease progresses to immobility and inability to stand, often leading to euthanasia between 1 and 2 years of age.

Locus K or dominant black has 3 variants KB, Kbr and ky. The KB allele prevents the expression of the A or agouti locus, the coat colour is then determined by the B and E locus. The coat colour of dogs that are ky/ky will be determined by the A locus. The Kbr variant is responsible for the brindle coat but the mutation has not yet been identified.

Spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA or SAMS) is a genetic disease of the nervous system. Affected dogs present the first signs of ataxia around the age of 3 to 6 months. The symptoms of this pathology are a loss of balance, a progressive lack of coordination until the total loss of mobility. Another test for late-onset spinocerebellar ataxia is available. Primary lens luxation is an autosomal recessive eye disease that causes inflammation and glaucoma. Lens luxation occurs between the ages of 3 and 8, with the lens moving away from its normal position ( luxation) with symptoms including red, watery eyes. If left untreated, PLL can quickly lead to blindness. The test can be performed for any breed, but is most commonly found in the breeds listed below.
