Ichthyosis, also known as autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis (ARCI), is a non-inflammatory skin disease characterised by flaky or scaly skin. Clinical signs appear in puppies as early as 1 to 2 weeks of age. Affected dogs have a sticky, oily, yellowish substance around the eyes and ears. In severe cases, puppies are usually euthanised.

X-linked hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia is a disease characterised by missing or malformed teeth and absent sweat glands. The disease is transmitted in an X-linked recessive manner, so males carrying the mutation will all be affected. However, only females with 2 copies of the mutated allele will be affected.

The Merle gene creates patches of colour in the coat and blue or odd-coloured eyes. Merle dogs may have hearing and eye problems. Dogs homozygous for Merle, also known as double Merle, are predominantly white and prone to several health problems. Merle can be tested in any breed, but is most often found in the breeds listed below.

Hyperuricemia, also known as hyperuricosuria, is a genetic defect causing high levels of uric acid in the urine. The clinical signs of the disease are stones in the bladder or kidneys. HUU can be tested for in any breed, but is most commonly found in the breeds listed below.

Congenital myasthenic syndrome, also known as spasticity, is a disease causing congenital muscle weakness. Affected cats frequently adopt a characteristic squirrel-like position by resting their front paws on an object. Signs of the disease appear at about 3 weeks of age. The disease can progress slowly but affected individuals usually die before 2 years of age.
