Test code: DOG-PRA-BBS2PRA associated with the BBS2 gene is a hereditary form of progressive retinal degeneration characterized by damage to photoreceptor cells, leading to gradual vision loss. This progressive condition typically begins with reduced night vision and advances to complete blindness, with a variable rate of progression between individuals. Ophthalmoscopic examination reveals typical signs of bilateral retinal degeneration, including retinal thinning and vascular changes. In advanced stages, secondary complications such as cataracts may develop.

Test code: DOG-PRA-NECAP1In the Giant Schnauzer, a specific form of progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) is associated with a mutation in the NECAP1 gene. The first symptoms typically appear around the age of 4. This disease is characterized by progressive retinal degeneration leading to blindness.
This test is also mandatory for Dachshunds and Pomeranians as part of the Flemish government's breeding program (see the official program).

Test code: CAT-PRA-AIPL1Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) linked to the AIPL1 gene is a hereditary genetic disease described in Persian cats. It causes rapid degeneration of retinal photoreceptors, with the onset of cell loss as early as 5 weeks of age and severe involvement by 16 weeks. The first clinical signs include an early decrease in night vision, followed by loss of daytime vision.
